Credit Card Processing Methods

These days credit cards are the payment type of choice for many consumers, especially if they are buying online or ordering a product over the telephone. It is so much easier, and safer, for a customer to carry a credit card than a wad of cash. Therefore, you must have a credit card processing method that is fast, easy and affordable for your business. It does not matter how big or small your business is, credit cards are the way to go. One way to accept credit cards is with a merchant account.

Merchant accounts offer credit card processing in real time for a small transaction fee. They may also charge a setup fee and monthly service charge although this depends on the company you are using. The amount of the fee is something else that will vary. There are retailer merchant accounts that offer credit card processing through a POS terminal, online merchant accounts that offer credit card processing over the Internet and even accounts for phone or mail orders.

While you might be tempted to use a third party company like PayPal you should know not every customer will have this type of account, also in the long run you may end up paying more than you would for credit card processing through a merchant account.
