Members of Congress are home for the vacation and are hearing about healthcare from their constituents. Apparently they’re getting an earful.Some voters are mad, damn mad about healthcare as it now is configured. They’re also (apparently) some of them mad, damn mad about the proposed changes. Recent town hall meetings have featured shouting mobs, several members of Congress threatened with bodily harm and other unpleasantries. Disgusting performance for a republican democracy. Putting aside the supposition that the protesters might be a paid mob, really who cares where they come from. The important thing is to show some civility here and let everyone speak his or her mind and then get on with it. I’m sorry, white suburban protesters of health care reform are definitely not in the same category as brutally oppressed southern blacks as when the voting rights act was debated during the LBJ era. People who have issues with the health care reform package are not be water cannoned by obstreperous police. At least not yet….I understand that many times our elected representatives have nothing but rhetoric to offer, but that’s no excuse to invoke mob action at a town meeting. You give no respect, you get no respect. To start the task of organizing the space in your garage, you will want to remove everything from it. This means that everything needs to be taken out and placed outside. Important and non-waterproof items would be better protected if they were kept away from the garage door while you wash down the floor.
There are many parts to a garage, some of which you would not even think of.
There are many people who store so many things in a garage that it no longer accommodates a vehicle. Since your car is a valuable and expensive investment, it would be a good idea to store it under cover when you are not using it. A garage can protect it from heavy rain, sleet, snow and even from being used for target practice by neighborhood birds. My next post will be about, garage shelving.

A couple of years ago the city of Toronto implemented its own land transfer tax that effects buyers of homes. This tax is in addition to the provincial land transfer tax effectively doubling the amount buyers now have to pay. At the time many people thought it would have a negative effect on the Etobicoke real estate market because Etobicoke is so close the city of Mississauga which has no such additional tax. Fortunately for home owners this nightmare scenario has not happened. In fact the average price for homes in Etobicoke has continued to increase even thought those increases may be modest given the current economic climate.

My grandmother came over with the most delicious cake the other day! She always has wonderful treats around, but I’ve had most of her standards already. I was surprised that she had one that I haven’t had yet! She said it’s her blackberry wine recipe. I must have looked confused, so she quickly recited the ingredients to help me understand. She actually used blackberry wine as an ingredient in the cake! I’d never had blackberry wine, but the cake was amazing. She said the wine is delicious, too. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it, and I’ll pick some up the next time I find it! That way I can make some cake and enjoy some good wine, too.

There are lots of great things about living in Hawaii. We love the sand, ocean, the beautiful weather, and the cool trade winds. What we don’t love is the mold that comes along with the humidity. For people that like things clean, and especially for people that may have kids with allergies, the mold can be quite a problem. Luckily, us natives have discovered that using steam cleaners gets rid of the mold really well. It’s about the only think we’ve found that kills the mold spored and also gets rid of the black stains. For any of you who live on the coast, this is a great solution.

When our Placerville air conditioning went out, we wasn’t sure what to do. It is two days before escrow closes and our house will be under new ownership. However, we had already told the buyers that the air conditioner worked. Plus, they tested it in their home inspection and learned that everything was fine. Yet, now it’s broken and I don’t know if I’m supposed to fix it or not. I asked our real estate agent and he said not to worry about it. However, I’m not a dishonest guy. If I need to fix it, I will. I don’t know what to do.
